Mumbai: Law-enforcement agencies caught flak after suspended Mhada deputy collector Nitesh Thakur was declared an absconder by the Alibaug court two days ago.
Thakur is being investigated for money laundering and
amassing disproportionate assets. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) have launched a manhunt and revised the lookout notice against Thakur at all the international airports in the country.
    However, sources said the
action is akin to closing the stable after the horse has bolted and held both agencies responsible for his escape.
“On April 1, when Thakur was caught by the immigra
tion department at Mumbai airport while trying to flee the country, the ACB and the ED should have seized his passport,” said an officer.
