Mumbai: An assistant commissioner of police, P D Tiwari, was transferred from Kandivli (Samta Nagar division) to the control room after allegations of using abusive language with the public were levelled against him.
A departmental inquiry was also initiated against his assistant police inspector, Mandakini Narote, who allegedly ignored a builder’s complaint and instead registered an FIR against the builder.
Sources said the two officers had been harassing the builder for quite some time.
While Tiwari refused to comment, Narote said the allegations were a conspiracy against her.
Sources said the builder’s office had approached police commissioner Satya Pal Singh early this month with its grouse against the two officers. The visit coincidentally happened on the very day Singh transferred 36 constables of Nehru Nagar police station caught on camera accepting bribes from a Kurla resident, Mohammed Kasam Khan.
The builder’s assistants were told to take a cue from the Nehru Nagar sting.
“On senior police officers’ instructions, the builder’s assistants secretly recorded ACP Tiwari’s abu
sive language and demands for money,” an officer said. “The tape was then played before senior officers.”
Sources said the employees of the builder, who is redeveloping 56 acres of a housing society in Kandivli, were often summoned by Tiwari and Narote and harassed. On April 9, some local boys assaulted

four workers at the complainant’s site, causing serious head injuries.
“Narote madam took down only an NC (non-cognizable) complaint,” a representative of the builder said. “The next day, we removed another builder’s iron sheets that were lying in our compound following a demolition carried out by the BMC and Narote madam made out a trespassing case against us.”
Additional commissioner of police (north) Sunil Paraskar said: “Appropriate action has been taken against Tiwari and a departmental inquiry initiated against Narote.”
