Kota teen loses way, strolls into Raj Bhavan

S Ahmed Ali I TNN
Mumbai: An 18-year-old boy was arrested on Saturday for trespassing on Raj Bhavan premises.

Around 9 pm, the security guards of governor S C Jamir spotted the boy, Balusingh Uday Yadav, moving suspiciously inside Raj Bhavan compound at Malabar Hill.

Sources said S Kinnar, a constable attached to the SRPF, alerted his colleagues, who cornered Thakur. The SRPF personnel, who had initially thought the boy could be a terrorist, heaved a sigh of relief when they found him unarmed. Thakur was immediately handed over to the Malabar Hill police station.

Senior inspector Iqbal Shaikh of the Malabar Hill police confirmed the incident, but refused to elaborate saying it was a minor case of trespassing. “We have arrested Thakur and further investigations are on,’’ he said.

The accused told the police that he was a resident of Kota in Rajasthan and had accidentally strolled into Raj Bhavan. He had come to Mumbai on Friday in search of a job, he said. Thakur used to work as a cook at a sweets shop in Kota, but was fired from the job. He had come to Malabar Hill where two of his friends work as domestic help. On Saturday, he lost his way and reached the IPS/IAS quarters. “There is a common wall between the quarters and Raj Bhavan. He found a gap and thought it was a short cut to the beach,’’ a police officer said.

Sources said this was not a stray incident. In the past, too, many people have sneaked into the compound.
